Filming for the production “Palace of the Beasts” continues.
Tucked away in a small wooded area near the zoo’s service yard lies a world-class research center. Some of the world’s rarest freshwater fish are kept and bred here. Many have already gone extinct in the wild; Schönbrunn is, in a sense, their Noah’s Ark.
Anton Weissenbacher, the zoological curator in charge of the facility, hopes that at least some of the exiles will one day be able to return to their homeland.
Another specialty of the Schönbrunn experts is jellyfish breeding; their work is eagerly sought after by scientists and zoos around the world.
